They Call Me Mellow Yellow!

What a gorgeous day to do some trekking in my neighborhood. I got in a three mile walk, and noticed that yellow was the color of the day!

There are several forsythia bushes in the neighborhood - sorry this is blurry - I was not smoking dried banana skins when I took this photo!

Ahhh, the dreaded sign of spring - those nasty dandelions! I guess we would like these if someone told us they were flowers and not weeds!
My mini-fanny pack - I'm saving the honkin' huge one for longer walks later in the summer!

I'm jealous of this mailbox - they have it all springy and pretty with silk flowers and Easter eggs. Mine needs a good paint job and is splattered with bird poop!

Obviously that crazy lady on the bike didn't see this sign when she almost ran me down several weeks ago!

Other yellows around the neighborhood included a dumpster (glad I don't see that out my window), garbage can lids, and a yellow garden hose.

What is your guess on who sang Mellow Yellow? No cheating by Googling it - take a guess!

Rock, Paper, Scissors!

The Trekkin' for Ta-Tas team is doing a team fundraiser! Fifty percent of the proceeds from any purchase from the Rock, Paper, Scissors website will go to our team!

When you order on-line, use the

Code: trekkin

at check-out so that our team gets credit. On the left menu at their website is a link called Click Here to Start Shopping. You'll find lots of fun pendants, lockets, bling rings, bracelets, earrings, and keychains. All of the pendants come with an 18" black velvet necklace cord. For an extra charge, you can purchase sterling silver necklaces, leather cords with sterling silver clasps, or pretty four-strand organza ribbon necklaces to go with the pendants.

The items are very affordable, and make perfect gifts for Mother's Day, graduation, birthday, or any special occasion! The items you purchase come in pretty silk-like gift bags which are great for storing the jewelry.

They have a nice selection of breast cancer awareness pendants. But, the team credit is for any purchase on the website!

Thanks for helping our team!

Window Shopping!

I didn't disappoint my trainer today. We were at the mall by 8 a.m. - I know, that is total craziness for a Saturday! I felt like those Army guys - doing more before noon than should be allowed!

We walked 3 miles, rested about 10 minutes, and then did another 3 miles. In November, I'll have the pleasure of repeating that a little more than 3 more times, and then doing it 3 days in a row. The thought almost makes me pass out!

I tried out my new fancy cell phone today by taking a couple of pictures of some really cute dresses with hats in a store called Cache. The stores are getting geared up to showcase Derby outfits. I could see myself wearing this, sitting in Millionaire's Row with the celebrities and drinking a mint julep.

I like this dress even better!

On a more serious note, one of the people I will be walking for in November is Ted's cousin, Kris. She is 40 something years old and had her breast cancer surgery this past week. She had been treating what her doctor thought was an infection. After almost a year of no success in treatment, she went to another doctor and found out she had Stage 3 breast cancer. She underwent chemo for quite a few months just to reduce the size of the mass before they could even do surgery. She will have more chemo and radiation after she recovers from the surgery.

If the thought of that doesn't scare you enough to get a simple mammogram every year, I don't know what it takes. She is in our prayers!

Train, Train, Train

I'm not talking the choo-choo kind! My trainer met me after he got off work, and we got a 3 mile trek in.

He has big plans for me tomorrow. Up early (I think there should be a law against up early on a Saturday).

Get to the mall by 8 a.m. (only sounds good if I'm going to a big sale and doing some shopping)

Walk 3 miles . . . . . . rest 10 minutes . . . . . . walk 3 miles.

Go to McDonald's for breakfast.

Kinds of defeats the whole purpose of walking, doesn't it?

For the Cure Tissue Cozy

Violet will tell you - breast cancer is no laughing matter!

A new item was listed in my Etsy shop today. The proceeds go toward my goal. This cute tissue cozy is a perfect way to keep all that kleenex dust out of your purse!

Thanks for checking out all the items in my Etsy shop!

That Rabbit!

My trainer wanted to meet me last night for a mall walk. I really wasn't planning on walking again until today, but I convinced the trainer to eat out after we walked! We got in about 3 1/2 miles, and he got to see the wascally wabbit!

I didn't have my camera with me, but I had to laugh this morning when one of my Red Hot friends posted a picture of her two new grandbaby girls with the bunny.

Would this bunny scare you? Put him next to those laughing rides, and I guarantee you'll have nightmares! LOL!

Mall Kids

I got in about a 4 mile walk at the mall this afternoon. I've come to the conclusion that a lot of grandparents are babysitters during the week. I saw a couple of kids having complete meltdowns with the screaming that makes you glad they belong to someone else!

And there were some kids getting their picture taken with the ugliest Easter bunny I've ever seen. He is straight out of a horror movie, and should be sitting in the mall near the rides that laugh!

The cutest kid I saw was sitting in one of the strollers you can rent to use in the mall. He thought it was a ride, and he was not about to get out despite his Mom and Grandpa trying to convince him that it wasn't a ride!

While I was walking, my trainer left a voice message for me telling me the plan for walking this weekend. I think he is taking this job way too seriously!

Mall Observations!

My trainer and I got up early this morning and got in a 4 mile trek at the mall. Saturday morning is for the old folks - they must get up at the crack of dawn because by the time we got there, quite a few were already done and eating breakfast at Panera!

They have the sit-with-the-Easter-bunny-and-get-your-picture-taken display set up. Real flowers are around a white picket fence, and boy do those lillies smell strong.

Old Navy is an electricity hog! Since we are walking before the stores open, you get to see how they leave the store at night. Most of the stores have very few lights on, but not Old Navy. Every light in the place is blaring and blinding. It seems like they could do a better job of conserving some energy.

My trainer said we're going to have to find another place to walk because I was bothered that there are birds in the mall, and they can't get out. I don't know how they got in because a lot of the entrances have double doors. I haven't noticed it before, but they were chirping alot this morning.

The Apple Store or Mac Store or whatever it is called is full of geeks in blue shirts who teach old people how to use a computer. They have classes that start before most of the stores open, and there always seems to be a crowd waiting to get in the store.

Welcome Spring!

Pain in the Butt!

I've used that pain in the butt phrase more times than I can count, but for the last week or so, I've had a pain in the butt, and it has a fancy name . . . . .

Piriformis Syndrome

It's a condition when the piriformis muscle of athletes (and I use that term very loosely for me!) like runners or walkers becomes tight and spasms. When this happens, the sciatic nerve gets pinched and your butt hurts!

Luckily, there are some great stretching exercises that I found on the internet. I'm sure I should have been doing them all along, but who ever thought you needed to stretch before you go walking at a mall?

You learn something new every day! Happy St. Patrick's Day! I'll be meeting my trainer after he gets off work so we can walk at the mall . . . . . . after I stretch my piriformis!

Love for the Piggies!

Ahhhh, the first rite of spring . . . . . . a pedicure! These feet have done some walking and will be doing lots more in the coming months! They (the official experts at Susan G. Komen) say not to get a pedicure close to the time you're going to walk the 3-Day because you want your feet to be all rough and calloused so you don't get blisters.

Until that time gets here, I plan to keep these babies looking good - mainly because the massage chair at the nail salon is so nice, and the hot towels they put on your legs feel so good!

Cool Tool!

My trainer told me he heard on the radio about this Nike internet site where you can easily map out a route, and it will tell you how many miles it is. When I did a search, I found a site called MapMyRun which was funny because it is associated with the Derby Festival marathon in Louisville. I never did find the Nike site, but this one worked great.

You put in a city and then search for a park, neighborhood, or any location where you plan to walk. Once your location is shown, you click on the route, and the mileage is determined!

We found a nearby park, and it maps to 1.75 miles, so our plan was to walk it today as it has a few more elevation changes than the mall walking! However, drizzling cold rain put a stop to that idea.

And since Dick's Sporting Goods had my walking shoes on sale, we decided to head to the mall, get in a walk, and buy another pair of shoes. I've had absolutely no problems with the ASICS pair I've been using, so I got an exact duplicate pair because by the time November rolls around, I'm sure they won't sell them anymore.

We got in a 4 mile walk. It is definitely no fun to walk on the weekends when the stores are open! The place was packed, but it was fun to do some people watching as we walked. I determined that way too many people are eating double doozie cookies and pretzels! Both side-by-side stores had long lines of people waiting to buy their oh-so-good-but-not-good-for-you food!

Weekend Routine!

For now, my trainer and I have settled into a weekend routine of meeting after work on Friday and walking almost four miles. Then on Saturday, we get up early and walk about 4 1/2 miles. We're walking at the mall until this crazy weather gets nicer.

Getting up early on Saturday is the killer. Early on Saturday for me is 7:30 a.m. On the way to the mall today, I called my mother-in-law. It was around 8 a.m., and I was hoping that she was up. She is staying at her sister's house for a week or so while the sister recuperates from being in the hospital.

They were both up and eating breakfast. They slept in late today . . . . . . and got up at 7 a.m.

I hope my sleeping in late is never at 7 a.m.!

Stupid Biker Babe!

It's another beautiful day in Kentucky, so I went for a four mile neighborhood trek. It might not look like it, but this is a small incline that I'm finding easier to do the more I walk. I figure Arizona doesn't have anything worse than this as far as hills go.

My neighborhood is fairly quiet during the day. I saw one gal walking her beautiful golden retriever and the mail lady. I was enjoying my 4th time around the loop when this gal all decked out in ridiculous biker wear almost ran me over! I had to get in the grass to keep from getting hit. She had the entire stinkin' street and wasn't paying any attention to what she was doing!

The next time she came around, she stayed on the other side of the street. I felt like yelling, Citizen's Arrest!

40% Down!

I was so excited to see three donations come in today - bringing my total to $925! I'm almost half way there!

Woooooo Hoooooo!

Trekkin' Sights and Sounds!

Because the weather was so beautiful today, I ditched the mall walking, and went around the neighborhood this afternoon.

I got in 4 miles, and the overwhelming sound of the day was all the chirping and singing from the birds! I saw a lot of robins, so I'm hoping that means spring is here to stay!

I didn't realize our neighborhood had so many dogs, but I counted nine! Two little white westie looking doggies greeted me on each trek around the loop.

And I also saw three deer in someone's front yard - real living, breathing deer - not those fake ones, although one neighbor still has his lighted fake ones out from Christmas.

Another loud sound were my shoes hitting the pavement. I think I heard my feet chanting, we want a pedicure!

Creepy!

My trainer, who is really not a trainer, but my hubby, Ted, (but it sounds cool to say I have a trainer) and I got to the mall at 8:30 this morning to do some walking.

It was fairly quiet with not a lot of walkers, however, when we turned the first corner, we heard children laughing . . . . . weird, creepy laughing like in a horror movie (what I think creepy laughing would sound like in a horror movie because I don't do horror movies).

There is an area with four small vehicles for kids to ride on. Coming from the ice cream truck was the creepy laughing. No kids around, just creepy laughing. What creep decided that creepy laughing should come out of a kid's ride at the mall?

We walked 4 1/2 miles today! *insert happy laughing here*

Mall Walking With a Buddy!

I met my trainer at the mall tonight after he finished work. We walked about 4 miles and then went to Moes for dinner.

It's nice to have a walking partner - it gave us a chance to get caught up with everything that has happened today. He told me that when one of his faculty members asked why he wasn't eating the box lunch that was bought for them at their afternoon meeting, Ted told them he brought his lunch because he is in training. LOL!

He then went on to explain about the Komen walk, so I decided at their next faculty meeting, Ted will be handing out my donation form! He said he could email them the link, but I'm thinking it is way too easy to delete an email, and having the form in hand might remind them to send in a donation.

Plus, how could they resist when attached to the form will be a pink ribbon with a Hello Kitty bead!

I've made a gazillion of these - we call them S.W.A.P.S. in Girl Scouts (Special Whatchamacallit Affectionately Pinned Somewhere) I thought it would be fun to having something to hand out to other walkers, and I also include one with every donation form I send out!

As for yesterday's question about the Life Is Pink Is Life sign . . . . . . Diana guessed correctly - it is a sign in the Victoria Secret's store!

A Good Sign!

On my 4 1/2 mile trek around the mall today, I decided to pick out my favorite store sign. See if you can figure out which store has this large neon sign in pink on one wall:

Life . . . Is . . . Pink . . . Is . . . Life

And if you follow my blog, you'll notice that I've changed out my banner. I helped design a couple of blogs for my trekkin' teammates, and decided I liked their blogs better than my own! So, I did a little rework last night on the banner and background.

The 1 in 8 refers to the number of women that will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. Think about eight of your friends, and then realize how scary that number is - the reason a cure for this disease needs to be found!

Okay - leave me a comment and guess which store the sign is from - I'll let you know tomorrow!

Trekkin' Teammate!

I'm so excied that the Trekkin' for Ta-Tas team I'm on consists of some of my Catster friends that I've known for years but have never met.

This handsome mancat is Diego, and his Mom recently joined the team! He was the first to buy one of the Calvin Collars for the Cure that I sell in my Etsy shop.

Don't you love his gorgeous face? Real mancats wear pink!

Walking Word of the Day

I walked at the mall again today - 7 times around which equals 5 1/4 miles! Today I walked in the afternoon when the stores were open. It wasn't very crowded, but so different than when the stores are closed - lots of unusual smells as I walked by each store.

The word for the day was free! Free gift bag with purchase . . . . . . buy two, get one free . . . . . free accordian file . . . . . . . . buy three, get two free . . . . . .

Free is a good word. Cancer-free, carefree, freedom . . . . .

One of my Dad's favorite sayings was: There is no such thing as a free lunch! There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but it's free to walk in the mall!
